FEI WORLD CUP JUMPING FINAL: 4 French riders in Lyon

Simon Delestre joins the finalists for the LONGINES FEI WORLD CUPTM JUMPING FINAL

Just a few days ahead of the Show-jumping and Dressage World Cup Finals to be held from 17 to 21 April at Eurexpo in Lyon, the lists of the finalists in each discipline is slowly beginning to take shape. On the show-jumping front, several developments have increased French chances. The withdrawals of Ben Maher, Hans Dieter Dreher and Joe Clee have enabled Simon Delestre to qualify for the finals in Lyon. Consequently, he will join Roger-Yves Bost, Kevin Staut, and Patrice Delaveau, who qualified during the 10 stages of the Western European League.Simon Delestre expressed his delight to the journalists of Equidia: “(…) It’s great news. I just missed out on the initial qualification. The horses jumped really well throughout the winter but often just made a silly fault. Anyway, I hadn’t changed my plans, and was continuing on as if I was going. The horses are ready and in good shape. I’ll be taking Napoli and Valentino Velvet. And I’ll use the opportunity to change horses depending on the classes. Napoli du Ry will do the speed class on the Friday. On the Saturday, I don’t know if it will be Napoli or Valentino. For the final on the Monday, it will be Valentino.”

Consequently, there will be four French riders competing in Lyon, and judging by their performances over the last few months, they will have good chances in the finals. In particular, we can note Roger-Yves Bost (14th in the world rankings) becoming the 2013 European Champion in the individual event on his magnificent horse Castle Forbes Myrtille Paulois, the victory of Kevin Staut (8th in the world) during the last Grand Prix at 1.60m at the end of March 2014 in S’Hertogenbosch, and Patrice Delaveau’s superb season with major wins in the CSI in Hong-Kong, La Baule, Helsinki and Barcelona, (placing him 9th in the world rankings).
