12 June 2014

From 23 to 26 June, the Normandy 2014 Organising Committee will be arranging a series of international Dressage and Jumping competitions, which will serve as test events in D’Ornano stadium, where the construction work will soon be completed.

Just like the test events of August 2013 (which included Eventing, Endurance and Driving), these competitions are not a rehearsal for the main event, but rather a simulation enabling the Organising Committee to move forward. These events will also enable the national federations to discover d’Ornano stadium in its equestrian configuration for the first time, and to enter into discussion with the Organising Committee, in order to get ready for the final weeks.

4 days of fine competition from 23 to 26 June

Competitions will take place over 4 days, with the Dressage CDI3* on 23 and 24 June, and the Jumping CSI2* on 25 and 26 June:

  • Monday 23 June: 1pm – Grand Prix
  • Tuesday 24 June: 8am – Grand Prix // 12.30am Freestyle
  • Wednesday 25 June: 10am – Competition 1 (1m35) // 2pm Competition 2 (1m40)
  • Thursday 26 June: 9am – Competition 3 (1m40) // 1pm Grand Prix (1m45)

A preparation but also a fine sporting competition !

Several nations have assigned a rider involved in the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ 2014 in Normandy, so these few days are sure to be showstopping! Laurent Cellier, Sports Director within the Organising Committee, explains how his strategy was coloured by the steady rhythm of the international competitions, hence the decision to stage these test events on weekdays: “to enable the champions to get in some riding between two major competitions in Europe. Most importantly, we were keen not to stage our events on dates overlapping an historic competition like Rotterdam. We respect tradition in Normandy!” Numerous countries will be represented during these 4 days, including: Australia, Canada, South Africa, Israel, Colombia, Chile, Palestine, Japan, Korea, the United States as well as Venezuela. The French and European riders will also be present of course!

Dressage CDI 3 * – 23 and 24 June

19 athletes from 12 nations are enrolled in this competition. Among them, a few “stars” such as Carl Hester (GBR), the coach of Charlotte Dujardin (Olympic champion and champion of Europe), who was part of the gold medal team at the 2012 London Olympics. Gareth Hughes is also in the entry list, and will certainly travel to Normandy this summer with the British team. Nathalie Zu Sayn Wittgenstein (DEN), daughter of Princess Benedikte of Denmark and, and most importantly for us, ranked 9th World with her former horse Digby, will come here with her new mare Fabienne. The Spanish team will be well represented with 4 couples in action! On the French side, Julia Chevanne (who participated to the FEI World Equestrian Games in 2006 with Calimucho, as well as the Olympic Games in Athens in 2004 and in Beijing in 2008) will participate with Luciano 182, and Alizé Froment will compete with her main horse Mistral du Coussoul.

The rising star of the Moroccan team Abdelkebir Ouaddar, the American Lauren Hough, and 12 French riders will also be there… a great competition is ahead of us !
