U.K.: World Number One and Gold Medallists Among Strong British Contingent at HOYS

A sensational line-up of British show jumping riders have submitted their entries to compete at this year’s Horse of the Year Show (HOYS). Among those taking place in the international classes at “The World’s Most Famous Horse Show” between 9^th and 12^th October at the NEC, Birmingham is current World Number One, Scott Brash and his Olympic and European Gold Medal winning team mates Ben Maher and William Funnell.

This year, eight riders were invited based on their place in the Longines World Rankings. In addition to Scott, Ben and William, the legendary John Whitaker will contend the £152,000 total prize fund, alongside regular winners Guy Williams, Daniel Neilson, Tim Gredley, Jessica Mendoza and Chloe Aston.

Kerry Brennan and Nicole Pavitt, who headed British Showjumping’s newly formed national Gold League as at 31^st July, will be coming to the show, too. Nicole has previously jumped internationally at HOYS, but it will be the first time for Kerry.

Other international first timers include Joe Whitaker, the nephew of John, and Danielle Ryder, who qualified at Bury Farm Equestrian Village’s HOYS Wild Card competition. A further place was won by Graham Lovegrove, who topped British Showjumping’s HOYS Wild Card League and last competed in the international classes at the Show in 2012.

A further two Wild Card places from Arena UK are yet to be announced.
