Westbrook Hunt Club Welcomes George H. Morris

Next week, George Morris will be traveling to the historic Westbrook Hunt Club to conduct another informative and educational clinic. Scheduled for November 14-16, 2014 and organized by Wendy Smith, the legendary horseman and coach will be instilling the foundations of good horsemanship to eager riders and auditors from Connecticut and surrounding areas.

After retiring as Chef d’Equipe of the United States Show Jumping Team, Morris has set his sights on developing the future of the sport by conducting clinics around the world. Focusing on helping riders develop correct form and function, Morris has often been referred to as the founding father of hunt seat equitation. Second to none, his teachings, technique and style are revered around the world. Over the course of his career, Morris has been highly successful as a rider, coach, clinician, author and judge.

“I’ve ridden with George for many years,” noted Smith. “My young horses get so much experience during the three-day clinic each year that it’s like they were at a show for three weeks. The experience gained from being around the crowd and working through George’s exercises is invaluable. This is the second year he has come to New England, and everyone is very excited. A clinic with George is better than Christmas!”

While spots to participate as a rider in the clinic filled up immediately, auditor positions are still available to gain knowledge from the esteemed Morris through observation. A waiting list is also available for riders should spots open up. Auditor spots in the indoor arena are offered for $75 per day and food will be available for purchase.

The daily clinic schedule will begin with the first group of advanced riders at 9:00 a.m., followed by advanced-intermediate riders at 11:15 a.m. The final group of intermediate riders will commence at 2:30 p.m. The lunch break will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m.
