CSI5*-W London Olympia (GBR): Pairs prove to be perfect for Whitaker

William Whitaker scored his second pairs competition victory of the day in the Martin Collins Enterprises Pairs Relay at Olympia, The London International Horse Show. Having won the Pony Club Mini-Major Relay earlier in the day, partnering Charley Hamilton, 12, he teamed-up with Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli (Vera) to make the double.

“I might asked Marlon to jump the first round of the Grand Prix for me later tonight as I obviously do better when I am riding with someone else,” joked Huddersfield-based William, who rode Mersley Chakotay this time.

The duo got together at the last minute for the class and had the benefit of being last to go.

“Marlon told me this morning that he’d enter if I was his partner, so I am glad I did,” said William.

The Belgium-based Brazilian rider added: “William is a good friend and I knew he would give everything to win.

“I have now won this class twice – last year with Laura Renwick.”

And sadly for Laura, this pairing’s performance this year relegated her to second place with Guy Williams.
