On Thursday evening, February 5th, the jumper stallions approved in 2014 will be presented in the ring at the KWPN Stallion Show Powered by Massey Ferguson. The presentation, which includes 16 four-year-olds and 3 six-year-olds, kicks off at 19:30 hours. Performing in groups of two and three, the four-year-old stallions will jump a small course; and the older stallions will be presented in hand. Several of the six-year-old stallions are slated to compete in the Blom Stallion Competition on Wednesday evening.
Stallion Selection Committee members Daan Nanning and Hester Klompmaker, who approved stallions for KWPN breeding last year, will preside over the stallions of 2014. These talented jumpers include the champion of the 2014 stallion selection, Genius (Baloubet du Rouet x Cantus). He was bred by the KWPN Breeders of the Year in the jumping breeding direction, sisters Anna and Wilma Wolters, and Rik Ongering of Groningen. Ridden by Maikel van der Vleuten, Genius is a grandson of the top international mare Jikke (s.Concorde), with whom Maikel’s father Eric van der Vleuten achieved his greatest international successes. Last year, the Cardento son Grand Slam VDL was registered in the studbook with a top score of 90 points. He will showcase his exceptional talent under Jur Vrieling, who will tack up his top jumper Bubalu VDL later in the evening for his official retirement from the sport.
In addition to the presentation of stallions approved in 2014 and Bubalu VDL’s retirement from the sport, Thursday evening’s program also includes the Grand Prix and the VHO Trophy competition.
