5 Feb 2015
The history of the Jumping International de Bordeaux is inseparable from that of the Show Jumping World Cup, constituting one of its legs ever since the event’s creation. The sport has never failed to provide striking memories: from Belgium’s Christian Huysegoms in 1978 to Germany’s Marcus Ehning – who took first place in style last year with the majestic Cornado – the FEI Longines World Cup Grand Prix greats have always given their all in Bordeaux. They will gather once again in hall 3 of the Parc des Expositions from 6th to 8th February 2015 for a weekend of thrilling top-level competition. As well as show jumping, visitors can look forward to a spectacular World Cup Driving final and a brand new indoor cross-country test featuring all the best eventing riders. Finally, an “event within the event” will be held on 5th February, when the competition will play host to the Cadre Noir de Saumur, one of the most prestigious equestrian academies in the world.
JUMPING: A REAL CHALLENGE
THE SHOW JUMPING WORLD CUP, SATURDAY 7TH FEBRUARY AT 8.30pm
In 2014, we were treated to a world-class jumping showcase, topped off by German virtuoso Marcus Ehning’s victory… We still remember Kevin Staut’s exhilarating win in 2013 with Silvana*HDC too. The tension in the air might have something to do with the high stakes at hand. A victory in Bordeaux is not just about the prize money awarded for first place (150,000 euros, of which €50,000 goes to the winner); it means earning a place on a prestigious list of winners featuring all the greatest stars in modern show jumping history: Gert Wiltfang, David Broome, John and Michael Whitaker, Pierre Durand, Franke Sloothaak (3 times), Roger-Yves Bost, Michel Robert, Hubert Bourdy, Rodrigo Pessoa and a host of others.
LONGINES FEI WORLD CUP™JUMPING
Bordeaux is a vital strategic leg of the World Cup circuit, which is nearing its end at this time of year. For those who are not yet in the race for the title, winning in Bordeaux could be their last chance to get back in the saddle for a place in the final. For others, it is a case of gleaning the last points they need to earn that all-important ticket to the final. Held in Las Vegas from 15th to 19th April, this star-spangled chance to shine on the world stage is yet another reason for our competitors to push their limits. Remember, after Bordeaux there will only be one more chance to pick up qualification points, a month later in Gothenburg. A good performance at Bordeaux’s Parc des Expositions could make all the difference!

DRIVING
THE WORLD CUP DRIVING FINAL, SATURDAY 7TH FEBRUARY AT 8.30PM AND SUNDAY 8TH FEBRUARY AT 1.45PM
Bordeaux and driving have always gone hand in hand. The city was on the calendar for the very first season of the driving circuit, just like it was for show jumping. Since then, three finals have been held in the Aquitaine region, and this year, Bordeaux will make it four! The leg is set for the world’s six best drivers, five of whom will be hot on the heels of Australia’s Boyd Exell, the current title holder and World Champion following his win in Caen in September. They might just manage it – let’s not forget how the Australian champion was foxed by Dutchman Koos de Ronde two years ago in Bordeaux. These “Chariots of Fire” are always a crowd-pleaser in Bordeaux, and this year will be no exception.
INDOOR CROSS COUNTRY TEST
THE INDOOR DERBY, FRIDAY 6TH FEBRUARY AT 10PM
The programme for Friday 6th February will end with a class held for the very first time in France in 2014 (Bordeaux is full of surprises!): the Indoor Derby, an indoor cross-country test at which France’s best eventing riders sent the crowd wild. The 2015 edition will be much more international – with a few big names to be confirmed soon – and even more spectacular, with a water crossing and a longer stretch (150 metres) between the paddock and the main arena, making the course about a kilometre long in total, with around twenty obstacles which are fixed or can be knocked over. An exciting fixture on the programme of the Jumping International de Bordeaux!
