Balmoral W, Eremo del Castegno and W. Zarah were the
headline-makers on the second day of the International Frankfurt Festhallen
Riding Tournament. Eremo del Castegno is owned by Italian dressage star
Valentina Truppa, who won the Metzler Bank Grand Prix de Dressage, having
enjoyed victory in Frankfurt many years ago in the young riders age group.
The Italian combo in the international Grand Prix were followed by a top German
pairing in the preliminary of the Louisdor Prize: Brigitte Wittig from Rahden
with Balmoral W – yet another horse fathered by Breitling W, whose offspring
have so often shone in the Nürnberger Burg-Pokal. The final of the Louisdor
Prize will take place on Sunday in the Frankfurt Festhalle.
Claiming the top spots in the first international show jumping to be contested
in the Festhalle were three “wild young things” – just 21, 19 and 19 years of
age: Sjaak Sleiderink from the Netherlands, horse trainer with Olympic champion
Jeroen Dubbeldam (Sydney 2000), took first place in his Frankfurt première in
the opening jumping, ahead of Niklas Krieg (Villingen-Schwenningen) and Angelina
Herröder (Büttelborn). The young victor thinks Frankfurt is “fantastic”, and he
is totally focussed on the international tour. “It would really be something if
I came top on Sunday too,” grinned the young Dutchman, who has been training for
Dubbeldam since he was 15, clearly delighted.
“Carnival in Rio” impresses in the festive Festhalle
The Equestrian Sports Journalists’ Prize at the cult show competition of the
Hessian Riding and Driving Associations was won by PSG Oppelshausen with
Carnival in Rio. The jury, as well as the audience, put Oppelshausen’s South
American show right up at the top of their list. With 20 horses and 20 dancers
the association conjured up fiery rhythms in the hall’s sand. A total of 62
helpers ensured that everything ran like clockwork. Following closely behind
were RuFV Wackernheim with “The Mountain Calls”, which the jury rewarded with
three 10s. Third place went to RuFV Butzbach with “Classic meets Pop”. In
total, eight associations took part in the show competition and they created
quite a stir!
First final on Saturday
The final of the Nürnberger Burg-Pokal, for seven to nine-year-old dressage
horses, will take place on Saturday from 10.55am in the Special Prix St.
Georges. 13 candidates will show their mettle in the dressage arena in the
Frankfurt Festhalle, and will provide those watching with a glance into the
future of dressage sport.
