The Show Jumpers are ready to go

The P.S.I. FEI European Championship in show jumping is taking off today with the speed competition. The starting order for today’s competition has been decided by a draw. Ireland is to go first and the hosting nation Denmark is to go second last

After yesterday’s vet check riders and horses are ready for the first round of the P.S.I. FEI European Championship in show jumping. 19 nations are on the starting list and the Irish team is first to go, followed by Switzerland with reigning Olympic champion Steve Guerdat on Nino des Buissonnets as anchor man. In the first half of the competition we will see nations like Great Britain, Germany and the Netherlands, which are considered to be among the favourites in the fight for the medals .

The British team counts two of the riders who helped secure British gold at the Olympics, Scott Brash and Ben Maher. The German team has been unfortunate in the time leading up to the championships with injured horses, and has had to call in their reserve riders, but with reserves like Ludger Beerbaum and Markus Ehning the team is still considered to be among the favourites.

The Danish team drew starting No. 18 which is second last and this suited the Danish team coach, Lars Pedersen, very well: – We could not have wished for a better placing on the starting list. All the horses and riders are fit and ready to go, and we are looking forward to ride on home turf here in Herning, says Lars Pedersen.

The first round of the championship – a speed competition presented by JBK Horse Shows – starts at 16.45 in the MCH Arena.
