Yesterday, the legendary Holstein stallion Contender (Calypso II x Ramiro x Ladykiller xx) deceased in his stable in Haselau at the age of 30 years. Contender was one of the most influential sires in Holstein breeding. The reserve champion was licensed in 1986 and was stationed at the Haselau stud Lienau since 2001. Over the years 127 approved stallions and 1.198 registered broodmares descend from Contender. Especially in Oldenburg where he covered the first three years a great deal of his offspring can be found such as elite mare Riconda or the stallions Continue, Caius, Clinton, Calvador and Cashman. The total prize money won by his offspring amounts to approximately eight million euros.
