(LEXINGTON, KY.) – April 20, 2016 – For the seventh year running Land Rover North America will return as presenting sponsor of the 2016 Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event, continuing their longstanding support of the United States Equestrian Federation (USEF) and equestrian sports. The event will run from April 28th – May 1st, 2016 at the state-of-the-art Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

unnamed(1)
Equestrian Events, Inc. (EEI), producer of the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event Presented by Land Rover, is delighted to increase the prize money for America’s only Four-Star Event. The prize money has risen again from 2015 by $50,000 and now brings the 2016 prize pot to $350,000, with the winner receiving $110,000. “It’s due to the commitment of our longtime RK3DE enthusiasts, our growing base of new fans, and the continuous support of Rolex Watch USA and Land Rover North America that we are able to increase the prize money for our event for a second straight year,” said EEI President Stewart Perry. “We proudly award prize money to the top 20 finishers and this record level of prize money fits with our position as one of the sport’s premier events.”

“This will be the seventh year that Land Rover is supporting the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day event. We are proud to continue our long established relationship with Kentucky and the equestrian community,” said Kim McCullough, Vice President of Marketing, Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC. “This outstanding event provides the perfect environment to showcase the capability and design of our vehicles.”

As one of six annual Four-Star Eventing competitions around the world (alongside the Olympic Games and World Championships), the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world.

It is therefore an official selection event for the U.S. Olympic Eventing Team, and will be attracting the world’s best riders.

Across the weekend, equestrian fans will not only have the chance to witness Olympic hopefuls, but also enjoy a range of top entertainment. Hunter Hayes, the Five Time Grammy Nominee, will be performing in the Alltech Arena at the Kentucky Horse Park on Saturday evening, following the Cross-Country.

Additionally, the Land Rover experiences will again be available to enjoy throughout the weekend; guests of the event will have the opportunity to drive the latest Land Rover vehicles on a specifically designed off-road demonstration course, alongside a trained driving instructor as co-pilot.

Now in its fifth year, Land Rover will be renewing the “Land Rover Best Ride of the Day” program, which rewards the top U.S. rider who finishes closest to the optimum time on the Cross-Country course with no jumping penalties. The award went to Will Coleman in 2015 for his exceptional ride on OBOS O’Reilly. This year’s winner will be presented with a 24-month lease of a 2016 Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The Land Rover Tailgate and Land Rover’s off-road test drive area have been some of the most popular attractions at the event in recent years. The fifth annual “Land Rover Tailgate Challenge on Saturday April 30th, will award the most creative, best-decorated and best-catered Land Rover tailgate party.

Alongside the Land Rover lineup, on display at the horse park will be the all-new 2017 Jaguar F-PACE, the brand’s first-ever performance SUV and the 2017 Jaguar XE compact sports sedan. Both vehicles arriving in U.S. showrooms this spring.

For any equestrian fans unable to attend the event, the NBC telecast of the Rolex Equestrian Championships presented by Land Rover will allow those to stream and enjoy it from home.

(Hagen a.T.W.) Just after 3.00 pm on Wednesday, the Danish national anthem sounded the first time at Hof Kasselmann – “Der er et yndigt land” (There is a lovely land) – the winner of the CDI1* Prix St. Georges, Prize of the company Schmidt Zoo & Garten, rides for the host country of Horses & Dreams meets Denmark.

Allan Uglso Gron who represented the Danish stud Blue Hors in Hagen, thinks: „This is perfect, almost impossible to top.“ He finished first among 28 outstanding competitors, scoring 72.605 % with Zick Flower. Zick Flower, the only eight-year-old Blue Hors Zack-progeny, already competed at the FEI World Breeding Championships for five- and six-year-old dressage horses. “The stallion is pretty cool, and I am completely happy about this success,” said the 34-year-old Danish rider.

The 18-year-old Jil Marielle Becks who will be awarded the Golden Rider’s Badge on Saturday at Horses & Dreams, finished second with the eight-year-old Damon Hill-son Damon’s Satelitte. The rider from Senden earned a final score of 72.421 with her “Little Dami”. Third came in team Olympic champion Helen Langehanenberg with Annabelle, followed by the fifth of the world rankings, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl with Dante’s Peak.

Felix Haßmann wins opening jumper class

Felix Haßmann and SL Brazonado won the CSI4* opening jumper class one more time, Prize of Performance Sales International GmbH – the duo had already won the same test at 2014 Horses & Dreams meets Brazil. The clear round in 60.27 seconds was a “nice start” for Haßmann who only had a short trip from Lienen to Hagen. “I am here in Hagen with four horses,” the 30-year-old show jumping rider happily said and looks forward to four more days at Horses & Dreams meets Denmark.

Dominique Hendrickx saves the best for last in 7-year-old finals at 2016 Spring MET

The young horses wrapped up their competitions at the 2016 Spring MET on Thursday. The tour is in it’s very last week, and today it was time for the 2016 Spring MET IV finals for 5-, 6- and 7-year-old horses in the Valencia Arena.

Dominique Hendrickx produced one of only five clears in the first round of today’s 7-year-old final aboard Danaide du Houssoit (Ogano Sitte x Sherman Sitte), and finished with a time of 41.31 seconds in the jump-off. Spain’s Diana Marsá-Lafarge came close aboard Andi d’Emiralia (Diamant de Semilly x Hurlevent) finishing as runner-up in a time of 41.79 seconds. Her compatriot Imma Roquet Autonell took the third spot riding Ivea del Maset – a Spanish bred mare sired by her former mount Indret del Masset (Indoctro x Cassini I).

Imma Roquet Autonell was not the only one riding offspring of an own superstars in the young horse final. Danaide du Houssoit is sired by Ogano Sitte that jumped at Grand Prix level with Dominique Hendrickx himself, and her dam is Artemis du Houssoit who has been ridden by Hendrickx for a couple of months now. “I got the ride on both mother and daughter at the beginning of this year, and so far so good. This 7-year-old is a lot like her sire Ogano Sitte: She really wants to go, she is extremely careful and always wants to work. But the more I get to know her mother, the more I think she also resembles her. For sure her looks are the same; people think I am riding the same horse all day long!” Dominique laughs.

Danaide du Houssoit is a classic example of an inexperienced horse that caught up very quickly through the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour in Oliva. “Before Oliva, she had not competed since August last year. The first week of 2016 Spring MET III, I jumped her in the classes for 6-year-olds – obviously out of competition. Now, about four weeks later she has the experience to take the victory in the final of her own age group,” Hendrickx reflected.

Hendrickx competed in Oliva for the first time during last year’s Autumn MET. “I had an excellent experience, so I decided to compete here in the spring as well. It is a great and fun show to prepare your horses for the outdoor season. You can actually build up your horses here, you don’t have to put any pressure on them,” Dominique explains. “Throughout MET III and MET IV, I have turned two horses into Grand Prix mounts thanks to this event. You can jump the horses in some smaller classes to let them get used to the arena, and the week after you can jump them in the bigger classes. In a short period of time, your horses can gain loads of experience!”

The weather conditions and training facilities also play a major part in the development of the horses during MET, according to Hendrickx. “The horses stay fresh during the tour; you are never riding a tired horse. Every day they can go out for a walk on the beach, play a bit in the sea and get their minds clear and fresh. When they get home from the tour, they are immediately fit to compete and they are in great shape!”

In today’s final for 6-year-olds, Slovakia’s Bronislav Chudyba turned out to be a dominating force aboard Tina Poll’s talented horses. Riding the Numero Uno-daughter Nora XLI CH, Bronislav Chudyba took the victory with a time of 45.58 seconds, while he ended up third riding Frederiks (Carambole x Up To date) in a time of 48.98 seconds. Spain’s Diana Marsá-Lafarge again finished as runner-up, this time riding Avel de la Lande (Lamm de Fetan x Muguet Manoir).

Great Britain’s Emma Stoker had a good end to the youngster circuit and took the win in the 5-year-old final, aboard the Cadensky-daughter Cool Cash and ending up as runner-up on Vienna – sired by Valentino. Her compatriot Jessie Drea took home the third spot aboard the Irish bred Amazon JD.

LGCT CSI 5* Antwerpen: Eric Lamaze Lightning Fast in Opening CSI5* Speed Class

$

Canada’s Eric Lamaze put in a phenomenal effort with his stunning 13 year old bay mare Fine Lady 5 to win the opening CSI5* speed class in the glittering destination of Antwerp. Under the floodlights, the Canadian delivered a fast and agile round in the intimate sand arena, nestled next to the gently flowing River Scheldt. The European leg of the LGCT opened with a display of power and horsemanship, as Eric held off home favourite Gregory Wathelet (BEL), who had set a good early pace, both taking out strides in the first line and not looking back.

The 1,45m opening course was kind, however encouraged a fast pace, and for riders to gallop the distance between fences. Eric set a pace that caused several to then play for a place as he looked un-catchable, showing form and serious intention for the rest of the weekend. Clears came sparingly in the field in the early stages which altered the strategy of many, meaning a careful round would see finishers in the prize money. With several Grand Prix rides getting their first LGCT outing of the season, some had Saturday on their mind and it would be a class full of interest for those talent spotting.

Home rider Gregory Wathelet (BEL) and Lilly Lordanos were the first to go clear, stopping the clock at 62.81s much to the delight of the home crowd, as the World Number 7 put in an impressive performance early on in the competition, second of the 50 strong field to go. Belgium initially dominated the top five, with Olivier Philippaerts (BEL) and H&M Challenge V. Begijnakker,  Niels Bruynseels (BEL) and Gancia de Muze, and Jos Verlooy (BEL) and Sunshine putting in strong performances on their home turf.

But it was Eric Lamaze (CAN) and Fine Lady 5 who stole the show; a pair that have a turn of foot like no other, as they were able defeat a field without breaking a sweat. It was a masterclass of how to ride in a rhythm, looking unhurried but lightening fast. Gregory in the same category is such a superb horseman that he could do the same and showed how to take a less experienced 5* pairing can show the others the way. Lauren Hough and Ohlala were of no surprise to go into the leading few, as the pair skated around, as we have seen so many times before, to turn tight and leave themselves effortlessly into 3rd place.

The home crowd would find comfort in seeing four of Belgian riders in the top 10, boding well for the rest of the week. A total of 18 riders jumped clear, with Daniel Deusser (GER), Lauren Hough (USA), Jessica Mendoza (GBR), Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum (GER), Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) and Marco Kutscher (GER) all looking on form ahead of this weekend’s Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Antwerp.

YouTube: Horses & Dreams meets Denmark – CSI4* Big Tour – Julien Epaillard (FRA) & Safari D Auge wins competition

Horses & Dreams meets Denmark: Double victory for French rider Julien Epaillard in Hagen

(Hagen a.T.W.) The second tournament day at Horses & Dreams meets Denmark was just as Julien Epaillard prefers it. The French rider already led the lap of honour early Thursday morning in the P.S.I. Championships with Usual Suspect D’auge. And his successful series continued in the first jumper competition of the CSI**** Big Tour at the foot of the Hagen Borgberg.

Presented by the Hof Kasselmann GmbH & Co. KG, Epaillard showed up with the Diamant de Semilly-son Safari D Auge, prevailing over New Zealand’s Bruce Goodin with Baloppi. The Brit William Funnell with Billy Angelo completed the mixed international rostrum. Felix Haßmann was best German rider with Cayenne WZ. He had already won the opening competition on Wednesday with SL Brazonado.

„Horses & Dreams is a super tournament for horses and riders – everything is simply well organized,” praised Julien Epaillard the 15th Equestrian Festival in Hagen at the Teutoburg Forest. The 38-year-old show jumping rider runs a show stable in Lisieux/Normandy with his wife Susana. His results in Hagen may decide whether Epaillard will take the “road to Rio”. Yet he was not one of the best in France, “but if everything runs well, I can maybe at least dream a bit,” he smiles.

No international show jumping tournament without Youngster-Tour where the top riders compete with their most promising futurity prospects. Two Columbian riders accomplished the best rounds in the division for seven- and eight-year-old horses. Carlos Enrique Lopez Lizarazo won with his eight-year-old Selle Francais-mare Ultramarine, followed by his compatriot Rene Lopez with the also eight-year-old Sandro Boy-daughter Destiny’s Child. Second place went to Philipp Weishaupt with the only seven-year-old Hanoverian mare Call me Eva by Chacco-Blue.

Fraziskus and Fürst Levantino at the top in the Nuremberg Cup qualifier

It is the 25th year for the prestigious Nuremberg Cup, the dressage series for seven- to nine-year-old horses. The upgraded competition mode celebrates its debut with the first stage of this series held at Horses & Dreams meets Denmark. While it was up to the riders to decide whether to present their horses in the opening competition, this is mandatory now. Only the best 12 duos are entitled to participate at the qualifier in the Almased Dressage Stadium on Saturday.

Ingrid Klimke from Münster won the first division with the Fidertanz-son Franziskus and a final score of 73.512%, the highest score of the test. The Norwegian Isabel Freese from the stable of Paul Schockemöhle won the second division with Fürst Levantino and 72.244%. Second places went to Kira Wulferding with Benaglio and Helen Langehanenberg with Suppenkasper. Ingrid Klimke and Geraldine came in third, just like Ann-Christin Wienkamp with Frizzantino.

The fifth of the world rankings, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, and her Dante’s Peak, an 11-year-old Hanoverian chestnut gelding, won the second test of the small dressage tour, presented by Sattlerei Hennig. A Danish rider captured another rostrum place: Daniel Bachmann Andersen with Blue Hors Don Olymbrio. Helen Langehanenberg and Annabelle earned another third place.
