GP Budapest

Despite heavy rain a pin couldn’t have been dropped on the covered tribune of National Riding School built in 1933. Closing competition of CSIO Budapest KAP Jumping Grand Prix started with 50 riders at 3 p.m. 16 riders, 2 out of them Hungarians qualified for the jump-off following a clear round on 160 cms. Spectators witnessed speedy and risky ridings and then came jr. Gábor Szabó (HUN) – winner of GP Budapest 2014 – with Timpex Bölcsész (M/Timpex Cabale). The next less than 43 seconds will definitely be remembered in the world of show-jumping. The chestnut mare and our son in red jacket did it as precise as an engineer as fast as a missile and all jumps untouched – enough for a legendary victory. This result is outstanding for Hungarian showjumping as well as valuable for Hungarian horse breeding, thanks to Timpex Stud proving again that they are capable to breed horses for top sport.

Sören Pedersen (DEN) repeated his last year’s second place with Tailormade Chaloubet (11y, chestnut,S, Chacco-Blue). 3rd was Amre Hamcho (SYR) with 15y Belgian Senorita. Hungarian Balázs Horváth achieved 7th place with exellent riding on Zordon who kept clear through all five rounds during CSIO.

Not a film director could have made it any nicer than life CSIO 2016 being the last event before temporary closing down of our historical National Riding School with two victories of Nations Cup and GP and the national anthem.

Tryon, NC – July 19, 2016 – For Matt Williams, Nicole Loochtan and the entire Wyndmont, Inc. team, the 2016 Tryon Summer Show Series has come to a successful end. After a victorious three weeks of competition, the team has much to look forward to in the upcoming weeks.

With time to prepare for the 2016 Olympic Games coming to a close, Williams and Valinski S ended their training for the world stage on a high note. The duo had a clear round and clocked in a time of 38.254 seconds to finish third in the $216,000 Tryon Summer 3 Grand Prix CSI4* on Saturday.

The top-three finish was their second of the show series, as they rode away with second-place honors in the $130,000 Tryon Summer 1 Adequan Grand Prix CSI3* during the first week of competition.

“We went to Tryon, because it was the best atmosphere in the country to compete in before the Olympics,” Williams said. “Valinski jumped in two grand prix events and performed great, earning second and third. I think our plan worked well.”

The 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood is currently making the trek to New Jersey, where he will wait to board his August 3rd flight to Brazil. The pair will be reunited before the opening ceremony takes place August 5th.

“I was really happy with the way he performed at Tryon,” Williams added. “We’re just going to continue working on fitness, now and make sure that we’re as fit as can be going into the Games. There is a lot of traveling, so our main goal is to have him 110 percent fit and to be able to last the whole time we’re there.”

On Sunday, Loochtan and Carla de Kalvarie Z rode a clear round in 41.871 seconds to secure a second-place finish in the $10,000 Junior Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic. The aspiring professional and her powerful mare were only 1-of-4 to make it to a jump-off, and 1-of-2 to have a clear round in the jump-off out of 22 competitors.

“Tryon was a really good learning experience,” Loochtan said. “Being in one place for the whole month and really getting to know my new horse allowed us to grow. We were able to work on things in one location and not have to worry about moving around to different places.”

This was the second red ribbon for the Lincolshire, Ill. native and her 11-year-old mount, earning a second-place finish in the $10,000 Junior Amateur-Owner Classic during Tryon Summer 1, as well.

“Carla de Kalvarie Z gets a break and then comes back for the U25 classes, which I’m really excited about,” Loochtan concluded. “She’s been great in the High Amateurs, and she’s ready to step it up. I’m looking forward to the competitive atmosphere of the class. I really want to start competing with the best of them.”

While Ronnie Beard travels to Rio with Williams and Valinski S, Michael Dorman will remain stateside to continue working with the team’s young horses and training clients. It is with his extensive equestrian knowledge and experience that he keeps the Wyndmont team momentum moving forward, collectively.

Founded by Beard with Dorman, Wyndmont Inc. provides classical horsemanship to annual and seasonal equestrian clientele. For more information, visit Wyndmont.com or find them on Facebook!

Culpeper, VA (July 19, 2016): As the third week of competition at HITS Culpeper came to an end, riders descended on the Grand Prix ring at HITS Commonwealth Park to vie for a victory in the $30,000 HITS Grand Prix.

Maryann Charles of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and FVF Sailor Man, owned by Fox View Farm, have been knocking on the door all season at HITS Culpeper. They have brought home two third-place ribbons in the Week II and Week III $25,000 Brook Ledge Grand Prix combined, as well as third in last Sunday’s $30,000 HITS Grand Prix. This Sunday, that knock blew the door down as they captured the coveted blue-ribbon and the biggest slice of the prize purse.

Eight advanced to challenge the jump-off over the course set by Bernardo Cabral of Lisbon, Portugal with five producing clear jump-off rounds in a race to the top of the leaderboard.

First to challenge the shortened course was Harold Chopping of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Contefino 6, owned by Caroline Russell Howe and Lisa Tolnitch. Chopping has consistently been in the top placings at HITS Culpeper since Week I in April, in addition to winning Friday’s $25,000 Brook Ledge Grand Prix with another mount. They laid down a speedy, clear trip to set the tone for the class in 38.999. The round would eventually earn them fourth-place.

Following Chopping was Manuel Torres riding out of Waterford, Virginia, and Christofolini H, owned by Andrea Torres Guerreiro. Torres rode the powerhouse bay gelding through the timers in 38.846, just fractions of a second quicker than Chopping to move up in the rankings. They would ultimately earn the third-place prize.

Another clear jump-off round appeared for the crowd with Kevin McCarthy and Analyze This, owned by Kimberly Jakubowski. The North Salem, New York equestrian conquered each fence, and clocked in fault-free in 43.474 — which would eventually give him and his mount the final spot in the top five for their efforts.

Hometown rider Brook Kemper of Culpeper, Virginia, entered the ring next aboard Classified. Kemper and classified have been moving up the placings this season at HITS Culpeper, with a sixth-place finish in Week I’s $30,000 HITS Grand Prix, and fourth-place finish in Week III’s $25,000 Brook Ledge Grand Prix. They put down a dynamite round in 37.719, shaving a full second off of the leading time. The round would come close to the victory for the eventual second-place prize.

Thaisa Erwin followed Kemper with Matilda. A heart-breaking rail at the last fence would keep them out of the top five, but would earn them seventh in the ribbons.

The victors, Maryann Charles and FVF Sailor Man were next to contend. They took to the shortened course with speed and precision, clocking in fault-free with a lightning-fast round in 36.736 for the win.

Two more contenders were left in the order after Charles’ leading round. Mary Lisa Leffler and Carlot, owned by Rolling Acres, put down a valiant effort, but a refusal at the second fence would ultimately earn them eighth-place in 53.583.

Harold Chopping and Basje, winners of Friday’s $25,000 Brook Ledge Grand Prix, were the final pair to test the jump-off. The crowd cheered as they went in no-hold-barred across the course. They flew towards the timers with a win on the horizon, but a heart-breaking rail a the last fence would keep them from the victory. They clocked in at 34.280 with four faults for sixth.

Fashion Designer OLD, an eight-year-old Oldenburg gelding (Faustinus x De Niro) owned by Martin Sosnoff, enjoyed a top finish in the 2015 Developing Prix St. Georges at Lamplight. This year, Parra has been campaigning Fashion Designer OLD with consistent scores over 70 percent in the same division throughout the 2016 winter season. The pair most recently topped the Prix St Georges class at the Centerline Events Spring Dressage Show at HITS in Saugerties, New York. They will compete once more before Lamplight at the Windy Hollow Hunt Sussex Dressage Show in Augusta, New Jersey on July 22-24. Parra said, “Fashion Designer is such an outstanding horse. He typifies what a developing horse should be with his amazing gaits and willing attitude. He is the kind of horse that any trainer would love to have in their barn, and I am grateful to Martin (Sosnoff) that Fashion Designer is here with us.”

Parra has also been preparing Don Cesar, a Westphalian gelding (Desperados x Sacre Schwalbe, Manhattan) with impressive performances and high scores in the Six Year Old division this year. Don Cesar will also compete at the Windy Hollow Hunt Sussex Dressage show in preparation for his Lamplight Six Year Old debut. “Everyone teases me that I favor Don Cesar because we share the same name, but really he is just so very talented. He always tries so hard and is such a pleasure to ride,” Parra complimented.

Amidst the excitement of preparing for the Markel/USEF Young and Developing Horse Dressage National Championships, Piaffe Performance is also excited to announce the re-launch and expansion of their social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Included in this revamp is a new weekly feature called “Cesar Parra Recommends,” or CPR, which provides a unique experience to learn from experienced trainer Parra himself. Through CPR, followers can find useful horsemanship tips, expert training tips, and top recommended products. Equestrians are encouraged to submit their own questions that could be answered and shared in the CPR section. Piaffe Performance also encourages users to tune into “Freestyle Friday” weekly posts for a fun weekend dose of musical dressage.

Piaffe Performance is always open to welcoming new dressage riders and horses to their winning team. The team spends summers in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey, and winters in Jupiter, Florida. Piaffe Performance riders constantly accumulate top placings in national and international competitions. July 19, 2016

After the win of team Hungary in Friday’s nations Cup, the crowd had a second chance to see their fans in action, and win the event’s highlight, the CSIO3* W Budapest Grand Prix. Six pairs achieved a douyble clear over the 1’55m track but Hungary’s Gabor Szabo Jr and Timpex Bolcsesz (Timpex Cabale) couldn’t be beaten after stopping the timers in an amazingly fast time of 42’94 to take the blue ribbon on home soil ahead of Denmark’s Sören Pedersen and Chaloubet (Baloubet du Rouet) who took runner up position with a time almost four seconds slower while Syria’s Amre Hamcho and Senorita (Ceasar vd Helle) settled for 3rd.

Valencia, 20 July 2016. – It was a beautiful scene when all the nations walked over the green field at the Oliva Nova Riding Center. Everybody was cheering and applauding the young riders as they waved their countries’ flags, all dressed up in their uniforms.

Everything is ready at Oliva Nova for the start of the European Children, Junior and Young Riders Championship 2016, the first to be held in Spain. The teams of all participating countries have already arrived at Oliva Nova. Germany, Holland, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Switzerland and Norway, are just some of the countries that will be competing in Valencia and fighting for the medals.

All 155 combinations from 23 nations passed the vet-check in the morning with no problems and with everything going smoothly. The vet-check was conducted by the FEI vet Vicente Jordà and judges Juan Carlos Campos and Katrina Wüst. With the vet-check now complete, the European Competition has officially started. This morning the show kicked off with the first part of the Junior Team tests at 08.00 hours and Young Riders Team. At 18.00 hours the competition will resume with the Children Preliminary B test.

Competition schedules and the list of participants are posted at http://scores.topiberian.com. Start orders and results are also available at this link or on Topiberian´s app, at the time of their official publication.

Number of participants
The new “Children” category, was launched in 2014. In this edition, we have 23 participants aged between 12 and 14 years. The category with the most participants is Juniors with 70 combinations (the riders are between 14 and 18 years old). In Young Riders (riders between 16 and 21 years old), there are 62 combinations. In total during the European Children, Junior and Young Riders Championship there will be 147 combinations competing in the arena. In addition, a curious fact: who would imagine that a 90% of the 211 combinations listed for the event are young women, 190 of the riders are women and only 21 are men.

Open doors in the program: Owner classes
Riders who are not competing in the Championship but who still want to compete can participate in the Owner Classes: a chance for all riders to compete in whichever category they decide.

The most prestigious and experienced Ground Jury
The best riders, of course, deserve the best and more experienced judges in the world. They will come from 11 nations. The FEI 5* judges are German judge Katrina Wuest, Danish judge Hans-Christian Matthiesen, Dutch judge Francis Verbeck von Rooy and Italian judge Vincenzo Truppa, all of them with an important curriculum judging young riders. The same as Spanish FEI 4* judges, Juan Carlos Campos Escribano and Paco Guerra and the other internationals as Luxembourgian jugde Christoph Umbach, Finish judge Tiina Karkkolainen, British judge Clive Halsall, Danish judge Kurt Christensen, Russian judge Alla Subbotina, German judge Elke Ebert, Dutch judge Adriaan Hamoen, Belgian judge Freddy Leyman and French judge Raphaël Saleh.

Tourism in Spain
More than a 1.000 people will be gathering to support the competitors in the Oliva Nova area. Hotels, apartments and restaurants have been reserved well in advance and a great number of officials, athletes, and their teams and families will be accommodated at the Oliva Nova beach Resort itself. That is a positive touch to the competition a great opportunity to enjoy this beautiful area of the Spanish coast and it’s gastronomy and its hotels.

Schedules are adapted to the climate conditions
The weather forecast has predicted rising temperatures up to maximum around 32ºC. The competition times have been scheduled to avoid the warmest hours of the day. The riders will be competing simultaneously in two arenas in two blocs: from 08:00 am until 13:30 pm and from 18.00 h until 21.00 h.

The event begun with the vet-check on Tuesday 19th of July. On Wednesday, the competition will start with the first part of Juniors Team, Young Riders Team, and Children Preliminary B tests. On Sunday 24 of July, the European Children, Junior and Young Rider Championship will finish at Oliva Nova with the Freestyles in all three categories.

Live streaming in www.topiberian.com
Live streaming will be available for the whole world on www.topiberian.com. Bobby Fernández de Bobadilla will provide commentary on the performances of the young talents. The results and the details of the scores will be available on http://scores.topiberian.com

Douglas Boyd Opens Third Week of Competition at Great Lakes Equestrian Festival with Strong Finish in 1.40m Open Jumpers

Traverse City, Mich. – July 20, 2016 – The third week of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival (GLEF) kicked off with cloudless skies, a gentle wind and the nation’s top horse and rider combinations. Exhibitors prepared for a full schedule of competition at the destination venue, many were relaxed from two days of exploring all Traverse City has to offer, from sugar-sand beaches and blue waters to picking cherries and exploring the best restaurants in north Michigan.

Douglas Boyd captured the win during the $2,500 1.40m Open Jumpers with Berkley III, owned by the Sapphire Riding Academy out of Mettawa, Illinois. He traversed the Pierre Jolicouer-designed track with the 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding, breaking the beam in 43.559 seconds to secure the first place.

“We have had him for about a year and a half now, and I brought him along,” Boyd stated. “We have been keeping a slow and steady program, just letting him come into his own. He actually jumped some 1.50m Welcome classes over that last couple of weeks, and he was in the ribbons. We could not be more pleased with him. We were out there basically schooling him today, having fun and letting him burn off some steam. I though the course was good, straightforward and a good course to kick off the 1.40m for the week.”

Douglas Boyd kicked off Week Three of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival with a win in the 1.40m Open Jumpers with Berkley III.

Douglas Boyd kicked off Week Three of the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival with a win in the 1.40m Open Jumpers with Berkley III.

Caitlyn Shiels, of Sheffield, Massachusetts, and a frequent competitor across the midwest circuit, rode to the second place award with a four-fault finish in the jump-off. She rode her own Cavalier II, a 9-year-old grey gelding, to the time of 46.730 seconds, as the second of only three competitors to master the first round and move into the short course. Scott Lenkart piloted Beorn, owned by Alliy Moyer, to the third place finish.

During the 1.30m Open Jumpers, Aaron Vale and North Face Farm’s Quality On Top rode to the top of the leader board to seal the victory. The professional rider bested the field as the eighth in the order, riding the Hanoverian gelding to a speedy time of 35.070 seconds. Boyd finished just behind Vale with Calvigo, owned by the Sapphire Riding Academy, with a clean time of 36.133 seconds. David Jennings and Aventador, owned by Maffitt Lake Farms, rounded out the top three with a more conservative pace of 41.947 seconds, leaving all rails in place.

Boyd stated, “This is our third week, and unfortunately, our last week at GLEF. We have to head home after the Welcome Stake on Friday. We brought five show horses, and one young horse, just to get some experience. It has been great; we love it here. We were here in the past, we have always liked it-it is a great area to come, it is a great venue, and it has turned into such a huge event. We had a wonderful circuit, and we are already looking forward to next year.”

The $1,000 1.30m Open Jumper division saw 16 horse and rider combinations compete, but it was David Beisel who rode to the top of the class. Beisel rode Rumorosa, a 10-year-old Mexican Sport Horse mare, owned by Harlow Investment Enterprises, LLC of Mason, Ohio, to the untouchable time of 33.690 seconds, outrunning Kristen Collins and Formella by nearly three seconds. The third place was awarded to junior rider Emily Perez aboard Boukati B, owned by G&W Equine Partners.

Beisel said, “Rumorosa did the Friday Grand Prix last week, and she will compete in it again this week. We just wanted to put her in an easy class before doing the 1.40m tomorrow and then the Welcome Stake on Friday. I have been riding her about two years, just working to develop her. She likes to go, she is a forward going horse and I try not to go too quick. She has a lot of speed, she is a fast horse, and she is a great turner.”

“I got to go fishing all morning yesterday morning, and the day before that we were out on Torch Lake the whole day. Traverse City truly is a family affair, the whole family loves it. We all show, and we are able to enjoy all that Traverse City offers. The horse show is great, and we love being able to get on the water and it allows for quality family time. It is a special thing that we can do this-there is so much family fun stuff, it really makes it a special show.”

GLEF will continue to welcome riders and thrill spectators over the next two weeks throughout the first series of competition, which runs July 6-31. Week Three runs July 20-24 and will feature highlighted jumper events such as the $25,000 Devoucoux Welcome Stake on Friday, July 22, and the $50,000 Great Lakes Grand Prix, presented by the Ingram family on Sunday, July 24.

The Great Lakes Equestrian Festival welcomed hunter competitors to its third week Wednesday at the Flintfields Horse Park. Riders have dubbed the Great Lakes Equestrian Festival the “destination show,” and it has already collected favorable reviews for the 2016-edition. With cloudless skies and mountain views, a number of contenders came into the R.L. Polk Family Main Hunter Ring intending to set the bar high, and started the first day of competition strong with top placings.

In the High Performance Working Hunters Courtney Calcagnini took the top spot in the over fences class, as well as the handy round, aboard Fleur de Lis Farms’ Bowie, a 10-year-old Warmblood gelding. Taking second place in both classes was Tamara Provost and Jus d’O a 7-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion owned by Rick Moyer. Rounding out the top three were Peter Pletcher and Columbia, an 11-year-old Holsteiner mare owned by Blanche Strunk in the over fences class and Meagan Murray and Editorial, a 9-year-old Holsteiner gelding, owned by Rebecca Price in the handy class.

Courtney Calcagnini and Bowie lead the way in the Professional Hunter divisions on the opening day of GLEF Week III.

Courtney Calcagnini and Bowie lead the way in the Professional Hunter divisions on the opening day of GLEF Week III.

Calcagnini was thrilled to start off her week on such a high note, especially after a bit of a setback during the second week of the series. “Last week I was here and I jumped two jumps,” Calcagnini said glumly. “He flung his shoe off into the jump, and I had to pull up-that was my week.”

Her two trips Wednesday morning had a much better outcome and the pair is now getting ready for the $25,000 USHJA International Hunter Derby presented by the Gochman Family and Baxter Hill Farm on Saturday, July 30. Calcagnini was happy with her rides to start off the week. “I just wanted to be really smooth,” she said. “He did all the inside turns really well. He is a derby horse, so he’s super handy and he’s perfect so I’m just along for the ride. He has a huge stride so you have to be careful, you want to go a little bit around the end of the ring but then get him back a bit in the lines because he can leave out a stride easily.”

Calcagnini is returning to Traverse City for the first time in a few years and was full of praise for the show and the new management. “The management is super,” she said. “They’ve done an awesome job. It is such a relaxed atmosphere, everyone loves it. Going out on the lake in the afternoons and on Mondays is so much fun.”

Hilary Johnson and Voyager

Hilary Johnson and Voyager

In the Regular Conformation Hunter division, sponsored by Sugar Run Farm, it was Hilary Johnson and Maria Rasmussen trading out the top spots with Kelsey Wickham and Pick Six placing third in both classes. Rassmussen took home the blue in the over fences class aboard Bliss, a 7-year-old warmblood gelding owned by Corporate Way LLC; while Johnson and Voyager, an 8-year-old Warmbood gelding, owned by Copper Fox LLC, were on top in the handy round.

Rasmussen was happy with the rounds that her young horse put in. “I’m really proud of that horse,” she said. “He’s really green and we’ve been working really hard. He went awesome today, he’s a really good boy. He’ll do just the conformation classes this week.”

In the First Year Green Working Hunter Class, sponsored by Wrenwood Farm, the top spot again went to Johnson aboard Copper Fox LLC’s Voyager, an 8-year-old Warmbood gelding. Second place was awarded to Quirino a 10-year-old Holsteiner, piloted by Peter Pletcher and owned by Audry Giles-Gates. The third place went to Kelsey Wickham and Wait and See Farms’ Pick Six. In the handy round, Pletcher took the first place, while Melissa Donnelly and Corlando 49, a 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding owned by Elizabeth Becker, finished in second place and Jennifer Nadalin and Westeros owned by Katie Jordan rounded out the top three.

Johnson was enthusiastic about her rides to start off the week. “I was very happy with the horses,” Johnson said. “Voyager is a blast to ride, he jumps like a freak. He’s a young horse. He did the high Pre-Green Hunter division last year, and we just took our time with him. We let him mature and he’s really coming into his own. He’s a quiet horse, he takes a lot of leg, a lot to motivate him, especially on a hot day like this, but he just gives you such a cool feeling in the air.”

Hunter competition will continue Thursday in the R.L. Polk Family Main Hunter Ring with division championships. Sunday will see the $5,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby, sponsored by Glory Days Farm LLC.

Horses are not the only form of entertainment lined up for this year’s Great Lakes Equestrian Festival. The festival has teamed up with top musicians and entertainers from around the country to offer fun-filled evenings for this year’s concert and dinner series.

The Summer Evenings at Flintfields continues, with a Tribute Equine Nutrition Wine and Cheese Reception, as well as a 6 p.m. performance by The Ragbirds, hosted by Porterhouse Presents. The fun continues on Sunday with the WTCM 103.5 Family Fun Day and AC Paws. Come out and see the Olate Dogs, “winner of America’s Got Talent.” There will also be a Coney Island Hot Dog and Brat Bar, hosted by Porterhouse Presents.

Series Two kicks off on August 10 and runs through August 28 featuring three weeks of hunter and jumper competition with a FEI CSI2* rating Week Five and Six and a FEI CSI3* rating during Week Seven culminating in the $100,000 Grand Traverse Grand Prix on Sunday, August 28. Act now to reserve stabling spots, and do not miss out on the chance to compete during the all-new FEI Great Lakes Equestrian Festival series in August.

The Great Lakes Equestrian Festival is set on 88 beautiful acres and showcases five world-class competition rings in addition to spacious schooling rings. The property features don’t stop there as the park offers convenient on-site campgrounds and weekly nights of entertainment for a truly unique attendee experience.

Normally, the Australian rider Edwina Tops Alexander would ride the 11-year old Caretina de Joter (Caretino) at the Olympics. But that won’t be happening anymore, Edwina announced that she won’t start the previous horse of Pius Schwizer and Cameron Hanley during the Olympics anymore.

She will be riding the 13-year old mare Lintea Tequila (Campbell) instead. A few months ago she won the Grand Prox of the GCT of Miami with this horse. In the Grand Prix of Cannes and Estoril the combination finished in second place.
